Tomorrow we begin a European vacation; I can't wait. We'll start in London, then to Manchester, the Lake District, and wrap up everything in Amsterdam. I've never been to any of these cities, and my head is swimming with all of the stuff we'll get to do and see.
Veg restaurants abound, even in the fast food sense, and the Lake District is home of the Vegan Society, or something like that. Plus, Morrissey hails from Manchester, so...
I have a list of historical punk locations to visit as well, including Vanilla Studios, where the Clash rehearsed for London Calling. Also on the list, The Elgin, where the 101er's were a weekly band, and Filthy McNasty's, which features lots of Pogues and Libertines memorabilia. I'm missing the Pogues playing in Seattle, incidentally, and that kind of sucks.
Television
I don't watch a ton of TV. I hate any and every show that features some sort of reality, competition, or a combination thereof. Project Loser Iron Survivor, I'm looking in your direction. I've gotten sucked into my fair share, for sure, but the novelty of any of them wears off after one episode. Last week I stumbled across an episode of Heroes. Wow, that show has got to be one of the cheesiest out there. I sort of enjoyed the first season. I like travel shows, documentaries, (one) food show, Seinfeld, and The Office. Most of what I catch is accidental, and I like it that way. I think a DVR would completely do me in.
One thing I caught over the weekend was this new set of shows on the Sundance Channel called The Green. Specifically, Big Ideas for a Green Planet was pretty good, and even factored in eating lower on the food chain instead of the typical buy a Prius and CFL's rhetoric. There was a film after that titled We Feed the World that I watched most of. Wow. Figure out how to see this, Netflix it or something. It's really eye-opening, and really sad. It really drives home how small decisions we make everyday affect people on a global scale.
Keep and eye on my Flickr account, and I'll do my best to upload photos during my travels as wifi allows. A big THANKS to everyone that is pitching in to keep the Kelly Manor secure throughout our travels.
