Another trip to Costa Rica under the belt. This time we traveled with friends (in a planned sorta way) and with the exception of travel days, stayed in one spot. It was great to stay at the Gilded Iguana, a place where we met our friends Keith and Jill on the first trip. We even ended up in the same room that they had, how bizarre! Only $35 a night, how can you top that? The owner enjoyed having us so much that she even gave us a free night.
It was a truly relaxing vacation. Returning to work wasn't difficult, but cutting the air temperature in half was a bit of a shock. Last Friday I was in shorts; tomorrow snow is in the forecast.
Food ranged from so-so to amazing. There was a new veg cafe called Oasis with simple pita sandwiches, veggie burgers, smoothies, that sort of thing. A remodeled hotel we visited had a great restaurant that even included dishes with seitan and tofu. Kind of a shock in such a remote location. My only complaint with the food in Costa Rica are places that try too hard to accommodate the American palette. More often than not, it turns out disappointing.
Since we missed R&A's Orphan Thanksgiving, we hit the store the first day back home and got all the fixins for a feast. Turned out great, Tofurkey included. I won't lie to you; I made a pretty amazing sandwich with the leftovers.
For the first time in quite a while I don't have any nagging freelance projects to tackle. I'm hoping I'll finally get around to some personal projects, as well as some minor home improvements here and there. All kinds of little stuff that I've let slide, like selling unwanted junk on Craigslist or eBay. Work slows down this time of year with the holidays approaching, so all in all I can't complain. The air is crisp, the load is light.
