Oh, I've Been Busy Alright
December 02, 2008
So there goes fall. We've been working on remodeling our basement since September, and it feels like every weekend has been consumed by it. What we did: moved everything out of it, gutted it, removed all insulation, installed all insulation, ran speaker wire for surround sound, installed laundry floor, finished electrical (wired plugs, switches, some fixtures), stained wood panelling, stained wood doors, and painted.
Good God we painted. Walls, ceilings, doors, and trim. And when we weren't doing any of that, we were picking out colors, carpet, wood, doors, hardware, fixtures, and furniture. Feels like I finally have my life back.
We're completely stoked with the results, thanks to the contractors we worked with. It's overwhelming making decisions to pick out that much stuff, and it's unreal that it all worked. We feel completely spoiled. Thanksgiving Day was the last bit we have to do for as long as we want, and we celebrated by never leaving the basement for the rest of the weekend. It's that good.
Doing all that and maintaining some semblance of a social life wore me out, so I wasn't riding my bike as much. Once, maybe twice a week I'd commute to work. I'm pretty happy with the fact that I'm sticking it out this Winter, unlike last. Better prepared this time. Got my fenders and mudflaps, and have survived the inclement weather with regular, old sneakers, knee high wool socks, Swrve's windproof/water resistant knicks and windbreaker, over Swrve's long sleeve wool shirt, and this skull cap thing that I wear under my helmet. Wool is pretty much the dopest material for cold weather activity, ever. I want to wear it every day.
Did some record shopping on Saturday, and raided those 99 cent bins. Came home with 32 LPs, hell yes. Classics, you know, stuff to round out the collection. Pretty sick 80s stuff, too.
Gearing up for 3 glorious weeks off work, visits from Kim's family, plus a little jaunt to old Mexico. We could use some snow, but other than that, Winter is looking just fine from over here.
