Testing the Trails

Summer is great, isn't it? At least it is up here, when it stays well below 90. Weddings, babies, bachelors, all kinds of excitement. Spent the majority of the day taking it all in, and riding our bikes all over the damn place. It was a relatively flat, leisurely 26 miles, taking off in West Seattle and heading to Leschi, through Montlake, and looping around via Fremont and Ballard back into Downtown. The route:

A Man, Obsessed

I am completely obsessed with riding my bike. And anything bike related. I'll spend hours looking at baskets and gizmos to affix to my ride. Bags, top tube covers, saddles, whatever. What's the temperature outside and how long will it take to warm up enough to avoid wearing a jacket? If you've ever been to a hardware store with me, you know how mesmerized I can get. Bike shops are the new hardware store. I just want to look at it.

DIY Long Haul Trucker Basket

I've been interested in getting my messenger bag off my back during my commute. I know, I know, it kind of defeats the purpose a bit. But having a swampy back at the end of a ride isn't the most pleasant experience, especially if you're trying to make a short trip in regular clothing. I needed a rack, for sure, but wasn't too keen on spending $80 on a pannier when my current, waterproof bag suits me just fine.

East Bound and Down

I have a new love in my life. She has olive green skin and prefers a simpler, less flashy look. She likes to climb a lot more than the red head that I used to run around town with. She's a little heavier, but a lot more down to earth. I plan to treat her right and adorn her with lots of nice things.

No time to put in my two cents on this, but to sum it up, I think it's all pretty ludicrous. There have been a lot of articles in the news recently about the scarcity of corn and rice and the sources for the pinch. In short: biofuels and livestock.

I've got record fever, the vinyl kind. Wax. I've always picked up records here and there and have a decent stack, but recently it all sunk in. A buddy of mine has been snatching them up left and right. Then, I went to my friend's place at Snoqualmie Pass a couple weekends ago.
