The Abridged History of Aaron Kelly
I was born in the small farm-town of Armstrong, Iowa 17 years and 68.4 miles from the Day the Music Died. Shortly before my second birthday, my parents whisked me back to the landscaped desert that is Southern California. I spent 21 years of my life there enjoying skateboarding when it wasn’t raining, snowboarding when it was, and surfing when it was too hot to do either.
I enjoyed drawing and creating at an early age, and in 7th grade I was yanked from the humming bandsaws of woodshop to draw graphics and type for the yearbook staff. In the 8th grade I was voted one of two “Best Artists” at my school. I wonder if I should include that on my resumé?
Later in life—slowly being driven crazy by the monotany of an average office job—a friend of mine turned me on to the field of Graphic Design (thanks LeAnne, wherever you are!). I enrolled in Platt College San Diego, graduated in 1999 with a degree in Multimedia and Graphic Design, and launched myself into a career path that I thoroughly enjoy to this day.
Living in the same area for 21 years, moving was an obstacle I was eager to conquer. Shortly after graduation, I traded the sun for the rain and moved to Seattle, Washington. I have lived in the soggy state for nearly 7 years, working on projects including (but not limited to) large format graphics, retail packaging, web design, identity, and the occassional Flash project. I have been obsessing over web standards and CSS positioning for the past year or so, and after reading everything I could get my eyes on, I decided to dive in. I have returned to my roots—building sites the old fashioned way, by hand.
I am currently seeking a new challenge—one which will utilize the various creative disciplines that I have spent years perfecting. Are you looking to expand your firm or fill a vacancy at your company? Let's talk.
